What do you do when things seem to be crashing down? What is it that motivates you to continue forward or do you simply give up? How many of us have simply given up? Given up on our dreams, goals, hopes, etc. Why are so few of us driven to succeed while the rest of us are simply content with being content?
I think that we lose a part of ourselves as we transition from childhood to adulthood. There is a spark that is present in every child that shines with curiosity…with adventure in their heart. For some unknown reason, this spark isn’t cultivated. It isn’t nurtured. It is simply and ultimately drowned in mediocrity.
We celebrate it and shun actual achievement. It is better to placate someone than to hurt their feelings. How far have we fallen when we have to worry about somebody suing us over calling them a name? It’s cliche, but “the truth hurts.” It’s supposed to hurt. It’s supposed to evoke a reaction. It is supposed to make you think. Do you simply get angry and place blame elsewhere or do you use that truth to make a change?
I for one use it to make a change. Whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional, it is something that needs to happen. I refuse to say, “I can’t.” I will teach my children that as well. You gain nothing if you do nothing. A wise friend once told me, “If you don’t ask, you already have your answer.”
We are inherently designed to learn from our mistakes. The lessons that you take away from a mistake will either help or limit your growth.
So? Which one are you? Are you of the “I can’t” crowd? Or, do you go against the grain no matter how much it hurts?
Feel free to comment and share. Maybe this will provoke some thought. Maybe it won’t. But, it doesn’t hurt to try.
