It’s not often that you’ll find a native, English-speaking star in a film that utilizes another language as the focal point. This is exactly what separates Will Ferrell from others in recent years. Casa de mi Padre is about 98% in Spanish and set in Mexico. It is a throwback to the Grindhouse-era style pictures in a similar fashion to Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof and Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror. It is funny, but nothing that made me laugh so hard to make me puke. I am still going to recommend it for something to watch. It’s not a pressing recommendation, but if you’ve got the time and need a few laughs, take a chance and read…I mean “watch” this movie.
