Beatallica: Metal dipped Beatles

Heard about these guys from somebody at work and just the idea of mixing the Beatles with Metallica to forge a unique song was enough to make me seek them out—I was not disappointed. The band hails from Wisconsin and has been around for over ten years. They tried to stay on the DownLow for a number of years hoping to avoid a Metallica lawsuit. In 2005, however, it was Sony that sued them for violating the Beatles copyrighted material. Ironically enough Metallica’s Lars Ulrich offered to help out with their legal fees and even negotiated a settlement in Beatallica‘s behalf. It turned out the boys in Metallica were very much aware of their bizarro alter egos and enjoyed the mash-up band’s music.

This is a sort-of-tribute band with a twist, I highly recommend you give’em a listen. Their technique for blending Beatles songs with Metallica themed music is nothing short of genius—it’s often good for a laugh as well. With clever titles such as, “Hey Dude”, “Thing That Should not Let it Be”, and “Blackened…USSR” you’re sure to be lured in as I was. Here’s a few of my picks. Check’em out and see if you can find some favorites of your own.
